The Expertise We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science; or
-
Two (2) years of experience practicing immigration law before the USCIS and/or the EOIR.

Must have first level accreditation from the Department of Justice and maintain levels of casework experience and training necessary to maintain accreditation.

Valid Texas Driver’s License

Experience supervising a team of lawyers and paralegals.

Excellent legal research and writing skills.

Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Experience working with immigrant community an asset.

Demonstrated multi-cultural understanding and experience.
What you Deliver
-
Participate in and supervise legal assistant intakes to meet clients and screen for any red flags. Participate in workshops to assist populations in crisis (i.e., post-disaster, DACA, TPS). Develop an expertise in Waivers and other complicated family-based immigration matters.

Provide day-to-day supervision to the legal team comprising accredited representatives, paralegal/legal assistants, administrative clerks, and interns. Consult with staff and senior attorneys on immigration issues.

Develop expertise in general immigration law, including but not limited to family petitions, asylum, U visa, T visa, adjustment of status and other immigration relief available to clients.

Maintain an active caseload of at least 40 active cases providing individual representation to family visa program clients.

Participate in community outreach and education, conduct legal workshops, and engage pro bono counsel in the provision of legal services.

Identify policy issues and coordinate with other units within Cabrini Center and the immigration bar in advancing advocacy agenda to promote immigrant rights.

Present at Charla and participate in post-Charla legal consultation.

Work with Cabrini leadership to evaluate program efficacy and engage in priority setting in line with community needs.

Provide periodic evaluation of staff performance.

Attend and participate in Catholic Charities agency-wide activities.
