Overview:  

The Public Health Epidemiologist at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services works with our technical team within the Surveillance Systems unit within the Communicable Disease Branch to onboard healthcare facilities to send electronic case report (eCR) data to the communicable disease system. They work with the facilities directly to facilitate their messages including working with them on proper formatting and content. They also work with the technical team and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for various diseases to map content and create technical specifications for populating data automatically into the systems. The epidemiologists also work with federal partners and SMEs to create reporting rules for various conditions and upload those to the reporting database.


Qualifications:

· Working knowledge of epidemiologic principles, investigations, surveillance, study design, descriptive statistics, statistical analysis and interpretation of statistical data and scientific literature.
· Considerable knowledge of biostatistics including the use of statistical software and statistical programming languages.
· Considerable knowledge of computers, database design, management and manipulation.
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
· Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution.
· Two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Responsibilities:

 
·       Employee will collaborate with healthcare facilities to onboard to ECR submission including file review, explanation of errors, troubleshooting, resolving issues and documenting data quality improvement goals and plans.
·       Employee will assist with technical specialists and epi disease specific experts to resolve problems, draft specifications, test new capabilities, and other technical tasks
·       Employee will work with SMEs to update reporting guidelines, review submitted eCRs and refine reporting requirements
·       Employee will participate in internal review and discussion of ECR policy
·       Employee will participate in external working groups for ECR policy
·       Employee will collaborate with electronic case reporting project manager to build and execute a plan to continue to increase both the number of facilities onboarding for eCR and the number reporting sending all conditions.

Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.

This position is currently a remote position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
